Job Summary: The Sr. Design/Markets Editor TH conceptualizes, produces, writes, and/or edits design trend, talent, and product-related stories. This position oversees development and production of the "Marketplace" department for each issue.
In addition, the incumbent:
- Locates and produces home features.
- Develops and maintains network of industry sources and contacts.
- Represents Traditional Home at industry, marketing, and consumer events.
Essential Job Functions
Identifies and monitors new and developing design trends, talents, and products. Conceptualizes and produces design trend/talent/product stories, including development and production of the Marketplace department, as approved by the Editor in Chief. Works with the Executive Editor and Art Director in creating story proposals, budgets, photo orders, and participates in layout and copy planning.
Actively solicits, procures, and produces the very best examples of interior design locations, appropriate to the magazine. Seeks a diversity of sources for the best possible mix of material.
Produces photography in coordination with art department for assigned stories.
Minimum Qualifications:
All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or English or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Six years writing or editing experience in magazines, newspapers, or related field.
Experience in electronic text editing.
Photography supervision experience preferred.
Formal interior design training helpful.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of interior design and designers, with ability to evaluate and select houses, topics, and products appropriate for the magazine.
Must be a self-starter with ability to work well with other magazine staff members.
Ability to write tightly focused, reader-friendly copy.
Ability to successfully communicate with interior designers, public relations reps, and other industry professionals.
Ability to organize information and files.
