THE POSITION

We are looking for an Editorial Assistant for our Green Journal who will:

1. Provide general administrative and editorial support in the editorial office:

A. Evaluate new submissions for completeness and conformity with journal policy
B. Assign new submissions to Editors; reformat manuscripts to include line numbering if needed
C. Assign and track manuscript review by Editorial Board members and periodically update reviewer list
D. Assign new Letter-to-the-Editor submissions to the Editor
E. Review Clinical Expert Series proofs and edit as needed. Proofread occasional items such as Dr. Queenan's editorials.
F. Provide backup for manuscript editor and production editor as needed
G. Procure supplies and reference materials as needed
H. Process mail & Coordinate special mailings and distributions
I File author agreement forms and revised and rejected manuscripts as needed
J. Provide administrative support to managing editor and assist editorial staff with special projects

2. Perform editorial duties associated with Deputy Editor's manuscripts; prioritize and organize journal-related tasks for the Deputy Editor:

A. Coordinate the review process via electronic tracking system (ie, Editorial Manager)
B. Manage Clinical Expert Series
C. Compile Deputy Editor's manuscripts for weekly editorial conference
D. Create and maintain paper and computer files to ensure timely disposition of manuscripts
E. Assist with journal-related correspondence, word processing, filing, responding to telephone inquiries, and making copies
F. Arrange business travel and reimbursements
G. Assist in review and editing of Deputy Editor's editorials

REQUIREMENTS:

• Education in English or journalism helpful with demonstrated administrative experience.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office applications (Word, Excel).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (including spelling and proofreading skills).
• Ability to meet deadlines and to handle a diverse work load while working independently.
• Must be detail oriented and well organized.
