Unsolicited Queries
We accept unsolicited email queries only. If we are interested in your project we will contact you with further instructions. You should submit your query in the following format:
A cover letter that includes your name, email address, physical address and telephone number. Please include your synopsis and the edited first three chapters ONLY of your manuscript. As well as an Author bio, Author photo, and marketing plan indicating how you plan to market and promote your book in the event it is selected. This is mandatory for ALL authors, and we will not read your manuscript without one. Should we choose to publish your book, we want to be sure that you understand your responsibility, as an author, to promote your work.
Formatting
Any work submitted to Lady Dragonfly Publishing or any other publisher must be edited. We will not review your manuscript if it does not look presentable. Minimal industry standard formatting is preferred. That is, manuscripts must be typed in black ink, and double-spaced. Indent paragraphs, center chapter headers and scene break indicators; use page breaks only at the end of chapters. Use a standard, size 12 font only. Margins should be 1 inch all around.
Illustrations
Illustrations are not required. If you need an illustrator we offer illustration services. If you have illustrations that you would like to provide, a maximum of 4 sketches, or copies of the art may be included with your submission.
Timeframe:
The review timeframe for hard copy manuscripts submitted by mail is a minimum of 6 months. For digital submissions such as email or submission form, the minimum timeframe for review is 3 months. If you submit your manuscript please allow at least the minimum amount of time to pass before querying or emailing us about your manuscript. The process of reviewing your manuscript is a long one and constant interruptions do not speed up the process.
NOTE:
If your manuscript is accepted, Lady Dragonfly Publishing will do everything in our efforts to see your book excel and be sold in stores and online. However we do not guarantee that your book will be in every store in the US or abroad. That depends on you and your willingness and availability to promote your book. Retailers will not buy your book if nobody knows about it. Your title will be listed in Books In Print, and will be available through our distribution channels. All titles are available in the United States, as well as in the United Kingdom. Although Lady Dragonfly Publishing will market and promote all titles, as the author, it is your responsibility to promote, be available for book signings and speaking engagements, and to spread the word about your book.
