Clay & Paper Theatre is preparing for our most romantic Day of Delight to date! Our 9th annual celebration of love, courtship and desire, set to passionately unfold on the afternoon of Sunday June 19, 2011, will culminate this year in an amorous and authentic wedding that will be celebrated by all our fanciful festival revelers in Dufferin Grove Park.
We are seeking sexy collaborators of all artistic disciplines to contribute works to tell a love story from first glance to wedding vows. Will your work tell the tale of the first date? The courtship? The stag and doe? Be creative! Be delightful! While this wedding tale will form the core of the festival, we also welcome submissions that respond more widely to Day of Delight’s overarching themes of Love, Courtship and Desire. Works of all artistic disciplines are encouraged. This includes theatre, music, dance, spectacle, poetry, performance art, installation, puppetry, participatory works… we dare you to surprise us!
Offerings can be large or small, new or old – but must be suitable for outdoor space and relate to telling our central love story or respond to the themes of love, courtship and desire. We have found that works of about 15 minutes in length seem to work best, whereas dialogue-driven works of a realistic nature seem to work the least. A modest honorarium will be offered to all participating individuals or groups. Please note that you are responsible for providing all requirements for your production, ie: cast, director, set pieces, etc., although we will provide whatever support we can.
BYOA (Bring your own Access): Clay & Paper encourages applications that integrate access solutions into the performance, such as someone performing in American Sign Language, featuring a wheelchair performer, or including integrated audio description to increase accessibility for the blind or visually impaired. Use your imagination and BYOA!
Deadline for Submissions: Friday April 15 at 5 PM. Those accepted will be notified by April 21. Please submit your proposal to clayandpaper@sympatico.ca. The proposal can be in whatever form you think best describes your project and ability to carry it out; this can include an artist statement, script, photographs, video, audio, participant CV’s, etc. If you want to do things old-school, you can mail your proposal to: Day of Delight Submissions, Clay & Paper Theatre, 163 Concord Ave. Toronto, ON M6H 2P2. Feel free to email or call if you need more information: (416) 708-3332.
