Call for Papers

Student Writing Award Competition

  • First Prize: $200
  • Honorable Mention: $50 prize

Prizes will be awarded in two divisions:

  • Graduate/Professional School students
  • Undergraduate students

The PCSW annual writing awards are designed to highlight and celebrate outstanding student scholarship on issues of importance to women. The competition is open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional school student papers that relate to women’s issues, gender, or feminist theory.

Students may self-submit and must include a faculty letter of support.

Faculty members who are aware of papers of excellent quality that meet the subject criteria are encouraged to suggest that students submit them.

Deadline for submission is Friday, March 18th, 2011.

• Awards will be presented at the PCSW full commission meeting on April 21, 2011, at 3:00
• Papers should be submitted via e-mail to Dr. Julia Bullock, jbullo2@emory.edu
• The Undergraduate Writing Award is open to all undergraduate students in Emory College, Oxford College, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, and Goizueta Business School
• The Graduate/Professional Writing Award is open to all students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Schools of Medicine, Law, Nursing, Public Health, Theology and Business

Submissions must meet the following criteria:

1) The author must be a currently enrolled student.

2) Papers must be typed in Times New Roman font, 12 point, double-spaced on 8.5x11 paper. The title page of the paper should contain the title of the paper and indication of one of the following categories: Professional/Graduate or Undergraduate. Papers should be between 10 and 30 pages, including footnotes or endnotes.

3) The name, address, telephone number and e-mail address of the author should be on a separate page following the title page. No personal identifying information should appear on any other page.

4) A brief letter of support from a faculty member should accompany each paper. This letter should indicate the value of the paper’s contribution to its field.
