Is there a writer in you? Do you have the potential to move people and make them think by the way you use words to give shape to your ideas? Has God given you a talent that needs expressing?
We're seeking new women writers who might need encouragement to develop their gifts. So we've teamed up with the Women's Justice Group of the Baptist Union of Great Britain to offer three prizes, of £100 each, to writers in three categories:
Spirituality - perhaps based on a Bible passage, prayer, or a fresh way or encountering God
Cultural comment - bringing a Christian perspective to the politics, film or literature of our time
Faith and life - reflecting on work, home, family or leisure
Why women writers in particular? With all the progress that's been made over the last few years, women's voices are still not heard as clearly as men's in our denomination. This is reflected in the literature we produce - including The Baptist Times. We want to encourage women to step forward and contribute what they have to offer.
We're looking for writing which is insightful, stylish and powerful. Beyond that, it's up to you. You may want to take a theme that reflects particularly on women's experience, or you might choose something with a broader scope. Your piece might be fiction, theology or practical wisdom. Whatever you write, it will need to make the judges want to read it to the end.
Entries will be judged by a panel of published writers and representatives from the Women's Justice Group. As well as the monetary prize, the three winning entries will be published in The Baptist Times and on our website.
