Yellow Magnolia Press' “My Story” competition 2010/11
Terms and conditions
These are the full terms and conditions for the “My Story” competition. The winners of the ten best stories will be published on our website and in our future publication:
“I Did It!”
Spunky Life-Changing Stories by Scottish Single Mums and Dads Edited by Jacqueline McDonnell and Charles Pelling
1. The Yellow Magnolia Press “My Story” competition is open to all single Scottish parents, born or resident in Scotland.
2. All entries must be original unpublished prose of 2,000 words or fewer.
3. Entries must tell a life-changing story about overcoming the difficulties of being a single parent.
4. Entries should not be extracts from any other works written by the author.
5. Writers may submit one entry only.
6. Entries must be submitted via email in Word or PDF format with the subject heading: “My Story”. Please include your email address in the file if submitting as an attachment, or in the body of the email. No other formats will be looked at.
7. The closing date for entries is 30 April 2011. Entries will not be accepted after that date.
8. The Yellow Magnolia Press cannot accept responsibility for entries which are not received or which are received after the closing date due to technical failure or for any other reason.
9. By submitting an entry all entrants, in the event of their entry being one of the ten winners of the competition, agree to their work being professionally edited if so required.
10. By submitting an entry all entrants, in the event of their entry being one of the ten winners of the competition, thereby grant the Yellow Magnolia Press the right to publish their entry on www.yellowmagnoliapress.co.uk and in the publication: “I Did It!” Spunky, Success Stories by Scottish Single Mums and Dads.
11. By submitting an entry all entrants, in the event of their entry being one of the ten winners of the competition, also grant Yellow Magnolia Press the broadcasting and electronic rights.
12. The authors of the winning entries agree to provide a written reference to substantiate the truth of their story.
13. Winners agree to participate, if required, in publicity events in connection with the competition.
14. Winners agree to provide a publicity photograph, or to have a photograph taken, and will grant Yellow Magnolia Press the copyright to the said photographs.
15. The ten winners of the “My Story” competition will be notified in July 2011 and the winning entries published on www.yellowmagnoliapress.co.uk followed by the publication of the book.
16. The £50 award for each story, sponsored by the Pentlands Science Park, will be sent with the winning notification.
17. Volunteers working with the Yellow Magnolia Press and members of their immediate family are excluded from participating in the competition.
18. The decision of the competition judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
19. The Yellow Magnolia Press reserves the right to change the rules of this competition without notice.
