Job Description
Simon & Schuster is looking for an Editor who is energetic, ambitious, and eager to develop and edit books for Aladdin Books. Aladdin Books publishes younger titles (ages 6-10), picture book list (3 – 4 books a year) with a primary focus on commercial middle-grade fiction. We are in need of a thorough Editor who can handle 25+ titles per year, from acquisition through publication independently. The editorial process includes working with authors on manuscript development, editing manuscripts for prose, grammar, punctuation, etc, and copyediting and proofreading of manuscripts, as needed. Concepting cover images, writing cover copy, and assisting in the production of marketing and sales materials are also major components of the position.
Required Skills/Experience
Qualified candidates must have a BA. 5+ years experience in Children's book publishing including (but not limited to) some picture book experience, includes all stages of the process from Evaluation of submissions to Acquisition to Bound Book. Experience with younger - ages 6-9 formats including chapter books and continuing series; Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at the same time; Willingness to assist other members of the department during crunch times; Existing Author and illustrator contacts a plus, but so is willingness to initiate contacts; Comfortable with electronic editing & copyediting.
