Primary job responsibilities include:
* Copyediting/copywriting copious amounts of in-house and freelance pieces
* Identifying and correcting errors in spelling, usage, grammar, punctuation and style
* Extensive knowledge of both CP and Chicago styles
* Ability to effectively work within an editorial team as you produce content that is second to none
* Ensuring sources and information are acknowledged in a form appropriate to the publication
* Interviewing
* Copywriting
* Liaising with sales and marketing departments
* Representing the magazine at industry events

Editorial Assistant
Rive Gauche Media is on the lookout for an inspired, insightful and enthusiastic EDITORIAL ASSISTANT to join our downtown Toronto office to work on all publications. With a focus on trade content, you have a passion for natural products and lifestyles, pop culture, jewellery and fashion. You have a pulse on the entertainment industry, and add a sense of style and sophistication to everything you do. You also thrive in a fast-paced environment, laugh in the face of multiple deadlines and when it comes to organizational skills, you take a backseat to no one. From digging up the latest news and researching market trends across a variety of industries, to shedding light on new product developments and merchandizing techniques, you’ve got the skills and savvy to help us take our industry-leading publications to the next level.
Primary job responsibilities:
* Under the guidance of the Associate Editors, helps prepare written material for publication, including copyediting both in-house and freelance pieces. Identifying and correcting errors in spelling, usage, grammar, punctuation and style to fit the publication's style and editorial policy.
* Ensuring all sources, statistics and information is acknowledged in a form appropriate to the publication using standard reference sources.
* Sourcing images and products related to editorial, and researching and interviewing industry experts and personalities as required.
* Contributing to multiple editorial sections within the publications.
* Assisting the editorial team with any duties as required, such as attending photo shoots for editorial copy assistance, or initiating and replying to correspondence regarding published material or material under consideration.
* Representing the magazine at industry events, and liaising with public relations agencies for latest press releases and product developments.
* Following the trends of the industry relating to the publications, including sourcing market data and statistics on various topics.
The preferred candidate will:
* Have at least one-two years of writing experience and a degree/diploma in journalism.
* Be highly competent with Word, Excel and Quark in a MAC environment; experience with Filemaker Pro considered a strong asset.
* Easily relate to our vision of who our readers are; an interest in natural health and fashion/lifestyle is crucial.
* Candidates should be familiar with CP style and standard proofreading symbols, and have a strong background in fact checking. Strong spelling and grammar skills, a willingness to learn and the ability to meet deadlines are also a strong asset.
