Summary:
St. Joseph Media is Canada's third largest magazine publisher with brands including award-winning titles such as Toronto Life, FASHION, Weddingbells, MARIAGE Québec, Where Canada magazines, Canadian Family and Quill & Quire.
FASHION Magazine is looking for a dynamic, experienced Online Editor with exceptional writing and organizational skills. This candidate will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief, as well as the entire editorial team at FASHION Magazine to provide smart, entertaining online content for fashionmagazine.com that is both original and repurposed from the print brand.
The online editor will also be responsible for frequent updates on Twitter, and writing a variety of newsletters designed to engage and inspire our online community, ensuring the site is up to date, from news to contact details to content from third parties. The position also involves monitoring the suitability of site advertising and working in conjunction with the interactive account managers.
The online editor is driven by the goal to drive traffic, unique visitors, page views and registered users.
Responsibilities:
* Collaborating on an editorial vision for the website with the editor-in-chief and executive producer
* Creating editorial lineups for the site, and also for the Online pages which run in every issue of the magazine
* Generating web exclusive story ideas; assigning and editing stories
* Managing all blog postings
* Generating video ideas, and acting as producer on videos
* Managing all copy editing and fact-checking
* Sourcing images, uploading stories to the content management system using HTML; creating slideshows and online polls
* Editing magazine content to be web-friendly
* Ensuring all costs are kept on budget
* Hiring and managing a web intern
Qualifications and Requirements:
* 2+ years managing one or more web sites
* Strong understanding of current web trends (social media, content aggregation, etc.)
* Understanding of successful blogging is an asset
* Experience with Google Analytics and the interpretation of site metrics is an asset
* Experience in an online magazine environment is an asset
* Experience as an editor or working within an editorial process is an asset
* Knowledge of HTML, Photoshop and Wordpress
* A post-secondary degree in journalism is an asset
* Strong organizational skills
* Ability to write concise, accurate copy to tight deadlines
* Able to identify new opportunities and make them happen
* Ability to multi-task, work with multiple teams, and work independently
