This producer will spend roughly half of his or her time overseeing the evolving TODAYMoms.com blog, helping shape its voice, and managing a “hot team” of bloggers who are on call to react to news and timely “talkers.” He or she will be familiar with the mom blogging world and its many facets, and be tuned in to the conversation happening online and offline. In addition to blog responsibilities, the editor will be responsible for producing content in other subject areas.
Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate sound journalistic skills and ethics, thorough familiarity with online and TV news production; demonstrated news and story selection judgment and a keen understanding of how online communities thrive. Work requires strong writing, research, copyediting and storytelling skills; agility and poise under pressure and good deadline discipline; and thorough familiarity with and passion for social media and other community tools.
Enthusiasm for both TV and Web production is a must. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential qualities for success. Candidate must have an understanding of emerging technologies and online trends, and must enjoy collaboration, but also be able to work independently when required.
Appreciation for TODAY’s broad range of topics and personalities – from hard news to entertainment to lifestyle; celebrities and newsmakers to ordinary individuals; with a good grasp of topics and stories of high interest to women and young families – is necessary.
Also required: At least 4-7 years work experience in online and/or TV journalism and editorial programming, ideally working with parenting issues and topics; facility with common blogging tools, community moderation, social media distribution and other community-oriented applications or services; experience with content management systems and tools, wire feeds, online video, research skills; ease with/ability to learn technology a must; comfortable working in fast-paced and high-profile production setting.
