Guidelines for the 2011 Festival
The 6 Women Playwriting Festival proudly announces a ten-minute playwriting contest exploring the theme “CHANGES.”
This fithth annual women’s playwriting festival is sponsored by The Pikes Peak Arts Council, The Pikes Peak Library District and Manitou Arts Theatre (MAT). The festival will be held April 2011, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Please note: There are changes in the guidelines from previous years. Please read below.
1. Any woman 16 or older can enter. Collaborations are accepted.
2. Play must be published or unpublished and may be previously produced. Original works only.
3. Play content must focus on the theme of “CHANGES” and be appropriate for our community and theatre. The reading committee and producing theatre are seeking scripts with the potential for "dynamic staging of richly established characters in original dramatic and comedic relationships". Please no “television sitcom situations” or "talking heads."
Authors of the six chosen plays agree their plays will be produced by The 6 Women Playwriting Festival during April 2011. Cast will be chosen by six community directors and performed by local actors chosen through an audition process.
The six winning playwrights will receive an honorarium of $125.00.
4. Play scripts must not exceed ten pages.
5. Scripts should be typewritten on standard paper size, bound with staple only. Please use appropriate one-inch margins with pages numbered.
6. Submit three copies with title only. Include one unbound sheet which includes title of play, author’s name and address, email, and phone number. Playwright's name will not be known to the play-reading panel.
7. Scripts will not be returned to author unless a SASE is provided.
8. Authors may submit no more than two plays.
9. No musicals or children’s plays.
10. Entries are accepted from July 1 to October 31, 2010. Entries postmarked later than October 31, 2010, will not be considered.
