CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Proposals and abstracts are being solicited for the 2010 Women & Society Conference. This feminist conference is interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary, covering all aspects of women & gender being studied in the academy. The conference mentors and models feminist inquiry/scholarship for undergraduate students so joint faculty/student papers and excellent student papers are also considered, undergraduates may attend at no cost.
Dr. Michael Kimmel will be delivering the 19th keynote address on Friday evening, Oct.22. A noted feminist and sociologist, Dr. Kimmel has been studying masculinity. His books include: Guyland; the 2010 edition of Men’s Lives (co-written with Michael Messner); The Invisible Sex: Masculinity in Contemporary America; The History of Masculinity: Essays; The Gender of Desire: Essays on Masculinity and Sexuality; The Gendered Society; Manhood in America: A Cultural History;;The Politics of Manhood; Against the Tide: Pro-Feminist Men in the U.S., 1776-1990; Men Confront Pornography among many others (see www.michaelkimmel.com for a complete bibliography).
The 2010 Women in Society Conference would like to encourage the submission of any papers,
workshops, or panels on the topic of developing feminist men and why it is in the best interest of all to achieve equality. A special part of the conference will be dedicated to all presentations dealing with these topics.
The Women & Society Conference is extending the Call for Proposals until August 6.
Please send your 250 word abstract with a brief bio. Papers, workshops, roundtables and panels are welcome, please include abstracts and bios for all participants, with one contact person. Please include all contact information--including home and e-mail addresses for summer correspondence to:
