Job Opening: Staff Writer and Editor for Cafe Mom (The Stir blog, New York)

Staff Writer - Parenting

CafeMom's blog, The Stir, is seeking an experienced staff writer to cover parenting topics, including Pregnancy, Baby, Toddler and Big Kid. All candidates must have extensive online experience and the ability to work quickly while paying close attention to the details. Content needs to be smart, high quality, and have personality. Candidates need to be self-motivated and able to pitch the kinds of stories they would want to share with their friends; generating ideas that are original and will drive traffic. Familiarity with SEO best practices and understanding what makes web content viral and sticky is vital to this role.

Candidates must understand how to (and be willing to) promote their work, are responsible for all art and fact-checking, and must be able to post directly into a CMS, without the need for an edit.

The ability to work independently and demonstrating good judgment, in a fast-paced environment, is essential. This job requires at least seven new posts every day, in our voice and style.

We are looking for candidates with a positive attitude, an open mind, a willingness to learn and experiment, a desire to be part of an amazing brand and a willingness to put forth 110% effort.

Familiarity with leading online sites (newspapers, blogs, social bookmarking sites, etc.) and social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, is highly desired.

Sr. Editor - Parenting

CafeMom's blog, The Stir, is seeking an experienced senior editor for our parenting channels. The Sr. Editor for parenting will be responsible for all of the editorial going up, writing quality, and traffic.

Responsibilities:

* Work with staff and freelance team to create original, web-friendly content that drives traffic to your channels and provides real value for the audience
* Work closely with editors and writers to develop ideas and oversee direction of stories
* Continuously monitor and analyze web traffic and use that information to guide content development and maximize visitors to your channels.
* Edit stories (and headlines), improving clarity and style while ensuring that the stories are accurate and follow The Stir's standards for style, grammar and spelling.
* Maintain scheduling for all posts, seven days a week
* Work on distinguishing the identity of assigned channels, developing editorial voice, and finding your channels' unique place in the online content world
* Ensure that processes and policies are followed, including giveaways, photos, copy guidelines
* Understand how to optimize content and headlines for SEO and for social shares
* Write at least 5 posts per week

Candidate needs to have at least 7 years experience in editorial, at least 2 of which have been as an editor and 3 of which have been exclusively online.
