Women of the World Poetry Slam 2012 – Denver, CO

Denver, CO has been selected to host the 2012 Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWps), a national spoken word event in its 5th year. The event is scheduled to be held March 7-10, 2012.

Denver has one of the most thriving slam poetry scenes in the nation, and is home to many slam poetry champions, including the reigning National Poetry Slam Champions of 2011, the National Poetry Slam Champions of 2006, the Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion of 2008, as well as the Individual World Poetry Slam Champion of 2010. This will be the first time that a national poetry competition will be hosted in the Mile High City.

Venues for the preliminary competitions and daytime events will be held central to downtown Denver on March 7-10, 2012. Our day events will include a walking tour of Denver’s beat poet history, writing workshops, haiku competitions, and a series of open mics that will be free and open to the public. Finals night will be held Sat., March 10, at the Denver Art Museum located at 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway.

IMPORTANT DATES/TIMES:
  • Registration (onsite) will be at the host hotel and begins on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 4-7 PM.
  • There will be a secondary Registration time on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 8:30-11:30 AM.
  • All contestants MUST COME to one of these times. Failure to do so, will result in a drop in the tournament and poets will be replaced by those on the waiting list.
  • There is a MANDATORY Orientation that all poets must attend. This will be on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 12:30-1:30. Failure to attend will result in disqualification from the tournament.
  • The Last Chance Slam will be on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 8 PM. This is run by the Host City and you’ll need to contact the HC for information.
