On the Same Page Literary Festival Writer’s Competition - Theme: Family Matters

Objectives

• to encourage and acknowledge emerging writers;
• to reinforce the annual theme of the On The Same Page Literary Festival; and,
• to stimulate increased attendance and participation of the writing community.

The Page Crafter’s Prize

First, second, and third place awards will be given in fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Prize money totaling $1,200 will be presented: $250 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place in each category. Winners will be invited to read their winning entries at the Page Crafter’s Prize presentations on Saturday, September 17.

Timeline
  • April 15, 2011 - On The Same Page Writer’s Competition opens
  • July 8, 2011 - Deadline for receipt of all submissions
  • August 15, 2011 - Notification sent to all entries of winning submissions
  • September 14–17, 2011 - On The Same Page Literary Festival Page Crafter’s Prize presentations and author readings
Rules

• All entries must be centered around the 2011 festival theme: “Family Matters.”

• 1,000 word limitation or no more than 50 lines of poetry.

• Entries must be double-spaced. A non-refundable entry fee of $10 (U.S.), per submission is required. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Ashe County Arts Council or go to ashecountyarts.org, click on “donate” and use Writer’s Competition payment information.

• There is no limit to the number of entries per person.

Title page must contain:

Name
Contact information: address, telephone, email
Category of entry
Word count for prose
Subsequent pages can in no way identify the writer.
Blind copies will permit entries by local writers, and local participation will be encouraged.

• Deadline: entries must be postmarked by July 8, 2011.

• Electronic submissions, in Word format as an email attachment, are encouraged, and must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, July 8, 2011. See onthesamepagefestival.org for the email address for submissions.

• Previously unpublished entries only.

• Winning entries will be published on the On The Same Page Literary Festival website.

• Authors retain all rights to submitted works.

• Winners need not be present to win.

Judges

Experts in the field of writing will be selected each year to serve as the Judges for the On the Same Page Literary Festival Writer’s Competition.
