Editors Wanted for Professional Women's and Parenting Site (B5Media, Canada)

Post date: 05 April 2011
B5Media is hiring and we’re looking for the best and brightest in NYC and Toronto to join our team of esteemed writers. We’re launching two new sites and expanding coverage on Blisstree and TheGloss. Please follow directions at the bottom of this page when applying.

Editor-in-Chief, professional women’s site. (Full time) The site will target women 30-45 and focus on the challenges of climbing the corporate ladder, from the perspective of women who have moved beyond entry level positions. Dealing with office politics, balancing work and life, learning to say no and finding your voice in a boardroom are just a few of the things that will be discussed in a witty but informative tone. Experience editing and working with freelancers is a must.

Deputy Editor, professional women’s site. (Full time) See site description above. Job requirements: Ability to write targeted, informed articles at a rapid rate.

Editor-in-Chief, parenting site. (Full time) The site will focus on women 30-45 who want to maintain a positive work-life balance, regardless of how much of their work takes place in a room littered with toys. We’re interested in all the lifestyle and parenting questions that come with becoming a mom for the first time after 30. Experience editing and working with freelancers is a must.

Deputy Editor, parenting site. (Full time) See site description above. Job requirements: Ability to write funny, informed articles at a rapid rate.

Application Instructions:

Please e-mail your resume and cover letter to careers@b5media.com.

1. Put the job you are applying for in the subject of your email.

Apply for one job opening only. You won’t be excluded from other positions, but your content preference is important. Also, B5 is a Canadian company and full-time positions are available in both New York City and Toronto. Part time employees can work remotely. Please state your location preference when applying.

2. Don’t skip the cover letter.

Explain your qualifications and why you’d be a good addition to the staff.

3. Include links to three articles/posts you’ve written that are relevant. We want to see how you write. If you have a blog, mention it.

4. We hire people with opinions.

All of our sites have a strong point of view and we need opinionated writers to achieve that. Let us know how you feel about the subject matter you want to write about.

If you’re applying for an editor position, consider including some original pitches for the site that demonstrate your understanding of the subject matter and qualifications for the role. Story generation will be a big part of the job and we want to work with people who can handle that.
