Post date: 07 April 2011
Dates: 14 April - 2 June 2011

THE FANTASTIC EXPERIMENTAL LATINO THEATER ANNOUNCES: The Fantastic Latina Writer’s Lab, is a program that aims to inspire and support women’s participation in the creative writing industries. Our next cycle includes: BETTER THAN SHOES: A “CHICA LIT” NOVEL WRITING WORKSHOP taught by novelist Sofía Quintero, beginning Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

Love novels like Dirty Girls Social Club, Bridget Jones’ Diary, The Devil Wears Prada and Waiting to Exhale? Have an idea for a novel of your own? Want a supportive writing community led by an author who has actually written and published “chica lit” with major publishing houses?

This 8-week course is for you! Join Sofía Quintero and other aspiring authors and begin your journey toward getting that novel out of your head and onto the page. By doing fun writing exercises, reading excerpts from some of the genre’s best and getting supportive feedback, you will learn how to develop interesting characters and entertaining plot lines, all without having to leave your latinadad at the door.

By the end of this workshop, you will have major character sketches, a complete outline for your story, and both inspiration and strategies to keep you writing that first draft to the last page.

Sofía Quintero is the author of Divas Don’t Yield which was published by Random House in 2006. Under the pen name Black Artemis, she also wrote the feminist hip-hop novels Explicit Content, Picture Me Rollin’ and Burn. SofÍa also contributed novellas and short stories to Friday Night Chicas (St. Martin’s), Juicy Mangos (Simon & Schuster), Names I Call My Sister (HarperCollins) and Iridescence (Alyson) and Dirty Girls (Seal).
