Women & Creativity 2011 features a fantastic schedule of events, organized and presented by our amazing partners. Programs are diverse in content, theme, cost and location; with events for children, young people and adults, there is truly something for everyone. Y

LOVE: STORIES AND SONGS ABOUT THE SIMPLE SIDE OF LOVE FOR THE UNDER 8 SET AND THEIR COMPANIONS – march 16

What: Interactive stories and songs celebrate the loves and wonder of childhood. Satisfying adults and little ones, Albuquerque favorite’s, Laurie Magovern & Susie Tallman entertain with intelligence and joy. With movement, mime and music, humor and heart, enjoy storytelling and song with a modern twist.

9 FOR 5: NINE NEW MEXICO POETS – march 17

What: New Mexico’s poetry scene is thriving and includes the widest range of styles and perspectives. Join us a for taste of state poetries—nine poets reading for 5 minutes—celebrating women’s poetry in New Mexico. Featuring: Jennifer Acampora, Jasmine Cuffee, Jamie Figueroa, Lisa Gill, Renee Gregorio, Joy Harjo, Joan Logghe, Sawnie Morris and Santana Shorty. After the reading, all New Mexico women poets are invited for food and “sistership” to celebrate women’s writing in NM.

What: A panel discussion with two of Hollywood’s top women comedy writers including Emmy award winner Tracy Newman (Ellen, According to Jim, Cheers) and Cindy Caponera (Second City, Saturday Night Live, Shameless).

516 WORDS READING: LATINA POETS – march 26

What: 516 ARTS presents an evening of poetry and music in the gallery, featuring New Mexico Latina poets Cathy Arellano, Andrea Serrano, Jessica Helen Lopez, Georgia Santa Maria and Maria Leyba. This event is part of the Women & Creativity series organized by the National Hispanic Cultural Center, and is in conjunction with the exhibition “Latino/a Visual Imaginary: Intersection of Word & Image” (on view at 516 ARTS during the month of March 2011).
