Job Opening: Editor for BizBash Magazine (Canada)

Post date: 04 February 2011
BizBash publishes a magazine and Web site for event planners—think of us as a Women's Wear Daily or a Variety for the special event industry. During the past ten years, our hardworking staff has created a thriving publication with a passionate and growing reader base.

BizBash is looking for a smart, energetic, full-time Editor who can lead our coverage of events, venues, and style ideas in Toronto. This position is a great opportunity for an ambitious editor who is interested in events and venues, and who is open to being out on the town several nights a week representing the BizBash brand. The ideal candidate is someone who can look beyond the PR spin and photo ops to cover the business decisions and strategies we're known for featuring. Must be able to work under tight deadlines and budgets, and must be ready to build a deep network of local industry contacts.

Job duties include:

* Keeping track of local events and determining which have the most potential to spark insightful, inspiring stories for our readers
* Researching and writing several stories a day in the BizBash voice
* Writing informative, attention-getting heads, decks, and captions
* Identifying industry leaders, trends, new products, and news that warrant coverage in our magazine and Web site
* Maintaining strict editorial integrity while working alongside the sales team

Qualifications include:

* At least one year of newspaper, magazine, and/or online publishing experience
* Familiarity with Toronto's event and hospitality industries would be helpful
* Solid reporting and fact-checking abilities
* Excellent time management, multitasking, organizational, and problem-solving skills
* A willingness to attend events on nights and weekends

Qualified applicants should email a brief cover letter (in the body of the email), resume, and three clips with the subject line Toronto Editor to cthompson@bizbash.com.
