EcoSalon.com is looking for exceptional freelance writers to add to our stable of livewires. EcoSalon is a conscious culture and fashion publication targeted to women 34-45. We feature articles across six sections: Fashion, Culture, Shelter, News, Food and S3x. We are looking for a few good men (and women) who can contribute to News, Food and S3x. (If you live for fashion and think you belong on the team anyway, tell us and sell us on why we should make room!)

Please read the following carefully before responding to this position.

1. Web publishing proficiency

You must be able to use Wordpress or have experience with a similar blog CMS.
You must know how to crop and edit photographs, upload and embed videos, polls, widgets, etc.
You must be a savvy social media user (Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Reddit, etc.).

2. Writing experience

You must have professional freelance or full time writing experience. Sorry, no hobby bloggers, mommybloggers or unpublished writers. We're looking for rock stars with strong voices and a firm grasp on A.P. Style and journalistic standards. A journalism degree (or any degree) isn't a requirement, but impeccable writing skills - from grammar to research - are essential. Please, no SEO/marketing types.

3. The personality factor

EcoSalon's razor sharp, fun-loving readership lives for thoughtful, humorous, smart articles. We're green, but we don't get preachy about it. We're looking for media and trend hyperconsumers, Renaissance types, and passionate souls with memorable voices. What we aren't about: women's service journalism - how to make that lip gloss last through date night! Product posts: check out this super shiny new purse holder! Reblogging: already on fifty other sites this morning, oops! If you have an insatiable mind and a unique ability to weave words in a way that isn't forced or expected, we want you bad.

4. Green

Not a green expert? New to environmentalism? That's okay. We want talent, period. You should care about the planet, but if you haven't renewed that Sierra Club membership in a while, we won't tell. (Besides, we'll convert you in no time.)

Still reading? Here's how to apply.

1. Again: proven pros only.
2. Pay: compensation varies by merit. We pay more than many blogs but less than big magazines. We're a startup, so this is not a get-rich freelance writing strategy. However, we have a respected presence, so you'll meet great people and gain credible bylines (really).
3. Send us the following: a link to your personal website, portfolio or your most recent website gig; two links to paid, published work you are proud of; at least two of your best social media profiles; one brief, honest paragraph about yourself and why we'd be idiots not to hire you tomorrow.
4. In your email, please tell us which section you'd like to write for, and include 2 or 3 original article ideas. (Note: you own these ideas. But we do need to see that you get what we're about and can hit the ground running.)
5. Diverse personalities welcome. Scary smart required.

This is a contract, virtual, pay-per-post position. We are an EOE.

Location: San Francisco
Compensation: DOE
Telecommuting is ok.
