University of Queensland Press Open to Unsolicited Children's and Young Adult Fiction Submissions

All information contained herein is subject to change. Please refer to these guidelines when preparing your submission.

We are currently accepting unsolicited manuscripts only in the following categories:

* Academic throughout 2011 in Indigenous issues and UQP's two academic series: New Approaches to Peace and Conflict and Creative Economy and Innovation Culture.

Due to the volume of submissions, we will not accept follow-up phone calls, letters or emails. Please ensure that the below submission guidelines are followed or your submission will be returned.

* Non-fiction from the 5 January 2011 to the 31 January 2011.

Manuscripts postmarked before or after these dates will not be accepted. Due to the volume of submissions, we will not accept follow-up phone calls, letters or emails. Please ensure that the below submission guidelines are followed or your submission will be returned.

* Children's and young adult from the 14 January 2011 to the 31 January 2011.

Please note we are not accepting the following genres of children's and young adult manuscripts:

* Fantasy and speculative fiction for children and young adults
* Picture books for children
* Poetry for children and young adults
* Series fiction for children and young adults

We are only accepting:

* Young adult fiction
* Middle reader fiction
* Younger reader fiction
* Non-fiction for children and young adults

We do not accept unsolicited manuscripts in the following categories:

* Fiction (submissions must be made by a recognised literary agent)
* Poetry (submissions will be solicited by UQP's poetry editor directly from the author)

Examples of the types of book we do not publish include:

* Travel Guides
* Food & Lifestyle
* Plays & Music Scores
* Mind/Body/Spirit
* Technical & Scientific Textbooks Unrevised theses and Conference proceedings

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Due to the fact that we are a small publishing house:

* We are unable to acknowledge receipt of your manuscript.
* We are unable to provide detailed comments on unsuccessful manuscripts.
* It may take 3 to 6 months for unsolicited manuscripts to be considered. We appreciate your patience during this time.

All submissions must include the following:

* Covering letter (including details of target audience)
* Author CV (including information about any previous publications)
* Brief synopsis or chapter summary (please include an overview of the entire story, including how it ends)
* 3-4 sample chapters as hard copy only. We do not accept submissions by email, on CD-ROM, or by any other digital media.
* Use double line spacing Number the pages
* Print on only one side of each page
* Stamped, self-addressed envelope for return of your manuscript. Unsuccessful manuscripts not accompanied by their own return postage are held for no longer than four weeks after the notification letter is sent from UQP.

Please note:

* All care is taken, but no responsibility accepted for loss or damage of unsolicited manuscripts received.
* Keep a copy of your manuscript.
* Do not send original art work or photographs.
