Grammar Diva's All-day Workshop for Writers - February 5, 2011, 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Salt Lake City Library, 210 East 400 South, Salt Lake City UT 84111
Grammar Divas Presentation: Good Writing Comes from Good Editing
This workshop focuses on the fact that the best writing comes from editing and rewriting.
Ten Commandments of Grammar for Fiction Writers... The Grammar Divas field many questions about grammar, but the most frequently asked is "Which rules are the most important ones for me to follow as a commercial fiction writer?" This section highlights the ten most important grammar issues every commercial fiction writer should understand and practice.
Fat-Free Writing or How to Eliminate Wordiness in the Edition Stage... Wordy sentences and unnecessary phrases clutter writing, turning an otherwise good manuscript into an overweight tome. This section shows you how to identify and correct common author mistakes, discover which words add meaning to a sentence and which take up space, and devise strategies to help you write precisely what you mean every time.
Designed to sell... How to Enhance Your Writing's Curb Appeal... In today's buyer market, anything you can do to enhance your manuscript's appeal puts you one step ahead of everyone else trying to sell. This section shows you how to use grammar and style to make the most of your manuscript's appearance, readability, and impact.
Using Grammar to Develop and/or Strengthen Your Distinctive Writing Style... Attention-getting, unforgettable writing is a delicate balance between what a writer says and how a writer says it. This section offers advice on ways to vary rhythm and sentence patterns to create a more interesting writing style; demonstrates simple tools and techniques to emphasize depth in your writing, not breadth; and explains when to follow the rules and when to toss 'em to the wind.
Using Grammar to Develop and/or Strengthen Your Distinctive Writing Tone and Voice... Attention-getting, unforgettable writing is a delicate balance between what a writer says and how a writer says it. This section shows you how to read your current fiction work in progress and ensure your writing reflects your distinct personality with careful word choice and positioning, paragraphing, and pacing; explains how words have positive, negative and neutral associations; and demonstrates how word choice and positioning help you add tonal cues to your sentences and paragraphs that help readers "get" your mood and tone.
