Call for submissions -- Women and their Callings
The Kathie Rasmussen Women's Theatre (KRASS) seeks previously unproduced short plays and monologues by women for a Spring 2011 production
Theme: "Women and their callings." Callings include careers and unpaid work as well as passions (such as the arts, performance, activism, and leadership), skilled activities (say, knitting), and so on.
DUE DATE: We will consider plays by women submitted no later than Friday, January 28, 2011.
FEES: No submission fee and no compensation for selected plays. Authors retain copyright. Authors may submit as many pieces as they like.
LENGTH: Plays must be no longer than 10 minutes. No exceptions. Monologues should be around three minutes.
STAGING: Plays must be appropriate for black box staging and simple costuming.
FORMATTING REQUIREMENTS
* Must be in 12 point Times Roman type with one-inch margins (on all sides).
* Must include two files - cover page & anonymous submission that follow our formatting requirements (see below)
* Cover page must include
o Your name
o Your street address
o Your phone number(s)
o Your email address
o Title of your play
o Number of characters (including age, gender, and special attributes, such as "must pronounce French")
o Setting (including anything that might require a special set building or acquisition)
o Running time / number of pages [longer than 10 minutes won't be considered]
o A statement certifying that you are the author of the play and it has not been produced elsewhere
o Whether you are willing to rewrite in response to suggestions
* The body of the play should not include your name, not even as a header.
*The format of the play text should begin with the TITLE OF THE PLAY and be formatted as follows:
CHARACTER NAME [centered]
Stage directions [indent twice italics, on a separate line unless a few words or less]
Dialogue - Indent once and single space within each dialogue fragment.

SUBMISSION:
Plays may be submitted either as pdfs or as hard copies, with cover page as a separate page/file.
* IF YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT a pdf, email as two attachments (cover file and play file) to Jan Levine Thal at artistic@madwomenstage.org
Name the attachments with title of the play (truncated if necessary) — NOT with "Krass" or any version of our name or your name.
* IF YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT hard copies, please provide one copy for each character, one for stage directions, plus an extra. [i.e., number of characters plus two others] to:

Process: We will read submissions aloud and discuss them. The Krass Artistic Director will choose the final pieces and inform writers. NOTE: We may suggest rewrites and we may need them quickly because we hope to begin rehearsals mid-February. Please indicate whether you are willing to rewrite.

Performances: April 1-3 & April 8-10 (eight performances)
