Job Opening: Deputy Editor for InStyle (Time Inc., New York)

Looking for a seasoned editor to top edit 50 percent of a major monthly women’s magazine (including fashion, beauty, home and celebrity stories) and two special issues per year. Must have a passion for excellent prose and experience editing both service stories and written-through pieces. This is a managerial position, so the candidate needs a calm head and the ability to clearly articulate what a story needs to move forward. Knowledge of and interest in the worlds of fashion and entertainment and some management experience are necessary. Duties include:

Query stories for for clarity, tone, and focus.

Read cover stories and service packages and help senior editors direct revises.

Help manage senior editors and some junior staffers.

Develop new freelance writers for magazine.

Help come up with new concepts for cover stories and service packages.

Senior-edit columnists and other pages as needed.
