Clean Eating magazine is looking for that special writer/editor, who will work closely with our Food Editor, managing a variety of tasks that include some of the following:
* Assist with the assigning, coordination and writing of front of book pieces
* Research the literature (journals and other primary sources) for assorted studies dealing with the evolving science of food and nutrition, then interpreting the data and recasting it into service-oriented material for FOB section.
* Assign and edit the bonus recipe cards, write display text
* Write and manage most departments that involve food, kitchen tools and recipes
* Interview chefs, transcribe interviews and write up the column each issue
* Help manage the reader recipe tester panel (e.g., send recipes to testers, and edit responses for both print and digital platforms)
* Act as a liaison between the freelance writers and recipe developers, as necessary, on behalf of the food editor
* Ensure the timely delivery of all writer contracts and permissions for each issue before pressdate
* Process contributor payment vouchers
Qualifications
* Minimum 3 years as a staff writer or associate editor (experience writing about food, cooking or nutrition is an asset)
* Strong writing/editing/packaging skills-University or college degree - print journalism/English
* Should have excellent contacts in the food industry, from dietitians to food writers to recipe developers
* A working knowledge of nutrition. Should be able to explain the difference between a micro and macro nutrient and be fanatical about nutrition labels as well as daily recommended values for nutrients, etc.
* Ability to blend well with various personalities
* A high level of enthusiasm and energy is an absolute must
* Adherence to deadlines
* Impeccable time management and organizational skills
* Ability to multitask
* Work well under pressure
* Ability to put in longer hours during production
* Familiarity with meal plan and recipe development is a bonus
* Above all must be extremely detail oriented
* Experience working with the nutritional computer program The Food Processor SQL and/or editing recipes is considered an asset.
