Call for Papers: Lesbian-Feminist Issues and Religion Group

The Lesbian-Feminist Issues and Religion Group invites papers and complete panels that treat theoretical, methodological, and/or practical dimensions of the following themes: 1) On the history of, problematic within, or reclaiming of the concept “Woman-identified woman”; 2) Borderlands: theorizing Lesbian feminism in and/or as borderlands; in relation to Gloria Anzaldua’s work on borderlands; 3) Queer eclipses: Has ‘queer’ eclipsed the relevance of gendered sexual identities (i.e., lesbian and gay)? Of feminism? How is the category of ‘queer’ itself subject to eclipse?; 4) Lesbian feminist theorizing of terrorism and responses to terrorism; 5) Ethics, grammar, discourses, models, and/or experiences of lesbian-feminist sexualities in non-Christian religion; 6) For a co-sponsored session with the Religion and Disabilities Studies Group, engagements with queering disabilities studies.

Guidelines for Submitting Proposals

Step 1: Find a topic in the call that interests you. Determine which type of proposal you wish to submit.

* Individual Paper Proposal – a paper written by you that you will present in response to a theme within a unit’s call.
* Prearranged Papers Session Proposal – a proposal for a complete session of different papers on a theme, complete with a presider, paper presentations, and respondent.
* Prearranged Panel Session Proposal – a proposal for a complete session (presider, list of panelists, and respondent) who will speak on a common theme.
* Wildcard Proposal – a proposal for a complete prearranged session that on a topic outside of the Call for Papers or program unit structure. The proposal can be for a paper, panel, or other creative type of session format.

Step 2: Write your description and 150 word maximum abstract. You have 1,000 words maximum to make the case for your proposal. Prearranged papers sessions require a separate 100 word maximum description for each paper in the session. Individual paper abstracts will be listed in the online Program Book.

Step 3: Submit your proposal via the method requested by the program unit no later than Tuesday, March 1. If you have any questions about your proposal, contact the chair of the program unit or the person noted in the Call for Papers. Carefully note any audiovisual needs before you submit your proposal.

OP3 (Coming Soon) - Submit your 1,000 word maximum description and 150 word maximum abstract via the Online Paper/Panel Proposal (OP3) system. Your name and contact information is sent automatically with the proposal so you do not have to submit a separate participant form.

Step 4: Notification of your proposal’s acceptance status to the Annual Meeting program will be sent by Friday, April 1.
