Founded in 1999, Macha Femme promotes women of color artists with a special focus on hip hop/spoken word and the intent for spiritual upliftment, transcommunality, youth empowerment, and social justice. The Xochiquetzalli Award for Poetry was established by Macha Femme Press in 2005 as the first nationally recognized literary award for Native American and Latina women poets.
