Description:
A new website approaching beauty from a science, health and psychological perspective is looking for a sharp, hard working, research assistant to join our editorial team. The candidate must have an excellent understanding of science, and health, and beauty, possess excellent research skills and be comfortable finding and digging through scientific literature and separating validated studies from fluff. This position will also be in charge of fact checking and proofreading and there will be the chance to write articles and contribute to the website.
The ideal candidate would have a journalism degree with a deep interest in and understanding of science and health, or a science or health degree with a flare for writing and interest in pursuing an editorial career.
The position is full time with benefits – competitive salary, health insurance, 401K, etc. – and based in our offices in New York City’s NoHo neighborhood.
Responsibilities:
-Research and compile information for analysis scientific journals and studies that pertain to beauty, from a scientific, health, psychological and wellness standpoint
-Validate studies with panels of experts
-Cross check all citations and examine all the references provided in articles
-Read and copy edit all content to meet standards for style, grammar, punctuation, spelling, clarity, accuracy, etc.
-Pitch, research and write articles
-Act as assistant to the editorial department
Required Skills
-Experience compiling research using scientific journals
-Ability to research and verify validity of studies, facts and quotes
-Discerning eye for spelling and grammar mistakes
-Knowledge of AP or Chicago Manual of Style
-Strong experience or interest in beauty, science and health
-Ability to take the initiative and is proficient at reporting, problem-solving, and identifying areas for improvement
-Natural collaboration with others; enjoys working closely with different disciplines to problem-solve and create superior web experiences
-Ability to multi-task while keeping an eye out for the details
-Organized and deadline-oriented
-Boundless energy and passion for truth-based beauty
