Vacancy: Assistant Managing Editor for DK Imprint (All Ages) - Penguin (New York)

Our DK imprint has an exciting new opening for an Assistant Managing Editor! While the majority of the responsibilities are geared towards managing editorial, the Assistant Managing Editor will have the opportunity to be creative and manage 10-15 editorial projects a year.

DK Publishing is world renowned for its distinctive, highly visual books that inform, inspire, and entertain readers of all ages. Publisher of the #1 New York Times bestseller LEGO ® Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary, and of the national best sellers Do Not Open, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Visual Guide among others, DK also publishes the award-winning Eyewitness series for children and Eyewitness Travel Guides. BradyGames and Rough Guides are divisions of DK, a member of Penguin Group.

Specifically, the Assistant Managing Editor:

1. Proofreads and Americanizes sales materials, jackets, and catalog copy for all titles managed, as well as US editions of DK Travel and Rough Guides titles.
2. Reviews and approves copyright pages and front matter for all titles managed as well as certain reissues and reprints.
3. Maintains and distributes Adult, Children’s, and DK Travel/Rough Guides pub lists and change memos.
4. Updates and corrects specs of Adult and Children’s titles in database.
5. Supports two editors in the commissioning of consultants and Americanizers to work on US editions of Adult and Children’s titles, serving as the US point of contact to answer queries from consultants, Americanizers, and UK editorial teams.
6. Writes title information sheets and researches competition for Adult and Children’s titles managed, and Americanizes DK Travel title information sheets for each new season of titles.
7. Prepares for and gives presentations at Launch, Pre-Sales, and Sales Conference.
8. Attends weekly jacket/program meetings, as well as sales & marketing meetings.

Requirements:

•4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
•2 years prior related editorial experience required
•Ability to multi-task
•Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
•Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
•Knowledge of InDesign, PowerPoint and database systems preferred
