Seventeen's $5,000 Fiction Contest 2011

1. THE FICTION CONTEST: Contest begins at 12:01am on September 14, 2010, and ends at 11:59pm on December 31, 2011.

Two ways to enter: (1): Go to seventeen.com/fiction to enter the contest by completing and submitting the entry form pursuant to the on-screen instructions, or you can enter by; (2) mailing in your entry to: Seventeen, 2011 Fiction Contest, 300 W. 57th St., 17th Floor, New York, NY 10019. All entries must include an original fiction short story of no more than 500 words.

Entries must be must be typed, double-spaced, on one side of each sheet of paper, and must not have been previously published in any form, with the exception of school publications. Entries must include your full name, age, home and e-mail addresses (if available), telephone number, date of birth, and signature in the top right-hand corner of each page of every story you enter. All mail in entries must be post-marked by December 31, 2011 and received by January 7, 2011.

Winner Selection: All entries will be judged by a Seventeen editors and Suzanne Collins, based on the following criteria: 33% originality, 33% creativity and 34% writing ability. The person among the tied entrants with the highest score in creativity will be the winner. By participating in the Contest, entrant certifies that his/her entry is original, has not been previously published, with the exception of school publications or won any award, and does not contain any material that would violate or infringe upon the rights of any third party, including copyrights, trademarks or rights or privacy or publicity.

Prizes and approximate retail value: One winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000, have their story published in a 2011 issue of Seventeen and receive a phone call from Suzanne Collins, which will be scheduled by Scholastic, Inc. Approximate retail value of all prizes awarded: $5,000. Winner will be notified via phone, e-mail or postal mail, at Sponsor’s discretion, on or about May 2011.Winner’s List: To obtain a list of winners, send a self- addressed stamped envelope after January 7, 2011 to: Seventeen, 2011 Fiction Contest Winners List, 300 W. 57th St., 17th Floor, New York, NY 10019 by May 1 2011. Incomplete, or mechanically reproduced entry forms or entry forms that have been tampered with will be disqualified.

2. ENTRIES: Multiple entries are permitted for the FICTION CONTEST (“Promotion”). Entries using macro, robotic, script or other forms of automatic entry will be disqualified. Entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. No mechanically reproduced entries permitted. Proof of submission does not constitute proof of receipt. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, mutilated, misdirected, incomplete, inaccurate or postage due entries. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an online entrant, the prize will be awarded to the authorized account holder of the email address. The “authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person to whom the email address is assigned by an internet service provider, online service provider or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address.

3. ELIGIBILITY: Open to females, legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia and Canada who are 13-21 years of age in their state or province of residence at time of entry. Void in Puerto Rico, Quebec Province and where prohibited by law. Employees of Sponsor, its parents, affiliates and subsidiaries, participating advertising and promotion agencies, and prize suppliers (and members of their immediate family and/or those living in the same of household of each such employee) are not eligible.
