Publisher Seeks Children's Stories (for beginning readers age 4-8)

Do you have a great children's story? We are currently accepting submissions for a new children's book series designed especially for beginning readers age 4 – 8.

Criteria include:

- The story must use simple, familiar words (especially sight words) that early readers can sound out. New readers should be able to read these books alone
- Stories should be about 350 words or fewer (for instance, stories that are 20-30 pages less than 10 words per page)
- Stories should not seem 'babyish' to our older (8 year old) readers
- Artwork should be simple and uncomplicated - preferably .gif format
- Topics are currently open and can cover humor, mystery, sports, adventure, retelling of traditional stories, cultural stories, you get the idea!
- Characters should set a positive example and be role models
- Stories should not be preachy... children can learn from the lessons shown
- References to crime / violence are unacceptable and will not be considered
- Preference will be given to stories with artwork

Immediate Needs:
- Simple, retelling of Christmas with appropriate illustrations
- Stories that focus on particular phonetic sounds – for instance, stories that use words the long "i" sound.

To be considered, please provide the following:

- A small sample of your work. Preferably 2-4 pages of the story including illustrations.
- Is the story complete? If not, when will it be ready?
- Has this work been published already? We will consider previously published material as long as you own the rights to the publication.
- Do you have the rights to the images?
- If the work does not currently have illustrations, will you be able to obtain illustrations.
