Dr. Clegg Austin is this year’s honoree for the third annual Steve McReynolds Essay Contest. Those who enter the contest will be asked to write on the topic of caring, which is this year’s chosen theme.
The contest is presented by the Alpha Department of the Murray Woman's Club, the Steve McReynolds family, Character Counts Coalition of Murray-Calloway County, the Murray Ledger & Times and Mayfield Printing.
To enter the essay contest, a cover page must be included and should be attached to the entry. It must contain the title of the essay or poem and the name, address and phone number of the author. If the author is in school, the grade and school name should be included. Entrants of all ages will be allowed to submit.
The entry must be typed, double spaced and have one-inch margins. For grades 3-5, the entries should be one to three pages. Sixth grade to adult should be two to four pages long. Entries must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Feb. 14. They may be sent to The Murray Ledger & Times, P.O. Box 1040C, Murray, KY 42071. Essays may also be delivered in person to the security desk of the Judicial Building at 312 North Fourth St. Winners will be announced on March 15 in the Curris Center Ballroom.
Brochures explaining the rules and with background information may be picked up at all city and county schools, the County Clerk’s office, the Ledger & Times office and other locations.
