Job Opening: Senior Content Associate Editor for Mattel (California)

Responsibilities:

Mattel Digital Network (MDN) is the business unit within Mattel, Inc. charged with bringing Mattel's brands to life on a variety of interactive platforms (online, social media, e-commerce, video game consoles, handhelds, mobile, iTV, and emerging media).

The MDN is seeking two Senior Content Associates who will act as Managing Editors for their assigned vertical within Mattel's Web group. Candidates must be well versed in the digital space for children, especially girls ages 8-12. They must be the keeper of the positive experience for kids online. Each editor will be charged with directing the voice & tone and digital story for their suite of premium girl-targeted interactive experiences (i.e., Barbie.com, MonsterHigh.com, PollyPocket.com, etc.). They will also develop overarching digital storylines for various marketing initiatives, platforms, and content types. Editors will also manage external freelance copywriters for multiple projects. Candidates will oversee, approve, and proof all copy to be launched across their assigned Websites. All copy must achieve one or all of the following results: inspire user into clear action, evoke an emotional connection, and spark immediate recognition of our brands.

Senior Content Associates must stay on top of digital, entertainment, and culturally relevant trends for tween girls. They must also keep their finger on the pulse of the emerging digital platforms our audiences are playing on. Candidates will also need to maintain a global vision with digital storytelling, as our brands and audiences are worldwide.

As acting Managing Editors, candidates will author and/or roll out Mattel's best practices, process, and protocol in the development of editorial content across our network of branded sites. Editors must be able to command an executive and diplomatic presence when sharing content with high- and mid-level stakeholders. They must also show an ability to recommend creative solutions on the fly.

Oversee the development highly effective, concise copy that is relevant to its respective audience

Ensure external freelance copywriters nail relevant voice & tone and meet tight deadlines

Present polished copy and storylines to stakeholders on time

Rapid idea generation for quick-turnaround projects and challenges

Maintain familiarity with CARU, COPPA, FTC, and other regulations

Deliver high quality storylines, recommendations, and copy on time

Route copy for approvals to various stakeholders (i.e., legal, marketing, Web, etc.)

Proof copy at all stages of development (writing, comp, dev, live)

Maintain superior knowledge of trends, emerging digital platforms, and various audiences (children, collectors, families & shoppers)

Experience Needed:

' Proven ability to develop content strategies based on professional experience, data, and business needs
' Creative thinker with strong storytelling, usability, and visualization skills
' Experience with and passion for writing and editing multiple content types (i.e., games, product descriptions, blog posts, community-wide events, etc.)
' Ability to convey concise and clear feedback to multiple freelance copywriters
' Superior oral, writing, and communication skills
' Strong understanding of emotional makeup of tween girls
' Expertise in balancing appropriate and effective language for children with a brand's voice & tone
' Stellar interpersonal skills within a multi-layered corporate environment
' Solid understanding of core marketing principles, with experience targeting a wide range of audiences (children, collectors, families & shoppers)
' Ability to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing, fast-paced business environment

A successful candidate must have:

- Minimum 5+ years editing and writing online, digital media, and/or interactive content for kids
- Bachelor's degree in communications, English, marketing or related field
