Avalon Magazine for Women Writing Contest: Writing from the Heart

Post date: 20 December 2010
Deadline: 1 April 2011

Enter our "Writing from the Heart" writing contest!

Avalon magazine and Nancy Slonim Anonie present the "Writing from the Heart" writing contest.

Poet Gerry Storrow or Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a frequent participant in Nancy's celegrated Chilmark Writing Workshops. Gerry's poem and Julie Balter's essay A Little Bit Country speak to the uniqueness of our voices, our heartfelt experiences, and the way we tell our stories.

And we want to hear one of yours! Nancy is providing a prompt to help you on your way - the same prompt that inspired Julie's essay. We hope it will inspire you. In a thousand or fewer words: Tell us about a time when you felt one way, but acted another.

Our Avalon panel will choose our favorite essay to be published in our Summer 2011 issue. And the winner will receive four night and five days accommodation on Martha's vineyard to attend a full session of the Chilmark Writing Workshops. Your accommodation package includes breakfast at the Mememsha Cafe in the picturesque fishing village on the North short on the island.

There is no entry fee. Please mail your essay to Avalon magazine, PO Box 1355, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568 or email writingcontest@avalonmag.com. Entries must be postmarked or emailed by April 1, 2011. Good luck, and remember, we write from the heart.
