Job responsibilities:
• Pitch ideas and develop lineup for the magazine’s front-of-book beauty and fashion sections as well as beauty and fashion features.
• Research and write multiple pages per issue, including a 4- to 6-page beauty and/or fashion feature, at least one 1,500-word research-driven beauty article, and additional beauty and fashion pages as needed.
• Assign remaining pages in beauty and fashion sections to other staff writers and occasional freelancers and edit their manuscripts.
• Edit and cut all fashion and beauty pages in InCopy and work with art department to deliver clean layouts to top editors.
• Manage freelance fashion market editors and stylists and lead run-throughs for front-of-book fashion pages.
• Oversee fashion assistant and top-edit all fashion shopping credits, assuring their accuracy and timely completion.
• Provide on-set editorial direction at fashion and beauty photo shoots.
• Represent the magazine in the beauty and fashion markets and attend press events and previews.
Skills/Experience required:
• Ability to report and write service-driven beauty articles with a fun, fresh voice (experience writing service-driven fashion copy is a plus).
• Strong editing skills and relationships with freelance writers.
• Established relationships with publicists and marketing managers in the beauty industry (experience in the fashion market would be a plus).
• Attention to detail, organization skills, and the ability to multi-task while keeping an eye out for the details.
