Post date: 20 October 2010
Deadline: 18 November 2010

The Women’s & Girls’ Fund, a leadership initiative of Kern Community Foundation, announces its fourth cycle of competitive grant-making, which will culminate in awards totaling $15,000-20,000.

Nonprofit organizations that serve Kern County women or girls within the focus area of “Education and Training” are invited to apply for funds. Successful grant recipients will be introduced at the Women’s & Girls’ Fund’s sixth annual luncheon celebration in May, 2011.

Applicants for Women’s & Girls’ Fund grants are urged to apply for funding to support efforts with sustainable impact or the potential for replication.

According to Founding Organizer Judi McCarthy, “We value social change grant-making that focuses on long-term solutions to societal problems facing women and girls in all parts of Kern County. We believe that when women and girls prosper, communities thrive.”

Within the focus of “Education and Training,” application topics may address, but are not limited to: science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills; literacy; educational attainment; dropout prevention; and college preparation and re-entry.

Interested nonprofits should send a Letter of Intent to Apply by Nov. 18, to the Kern Community Foundation office, 3300 Truxtun Ave., Suite 220, Bakersfield, CA, 93301, or fax 661-325-5358. Organizations that are invited to submit a full application will be notified by Dec. 15, with final applications due Feb. 10. Necessary forms and grant policies of the Women’s & Girls’ Fund can be accessed at www.kernfoundation.org.

The Women’s & Girls’ Fund was launched in 2005 as a leadership initiative of the Kern Community Foundation. To date, grants totaling $63,000 have been awarded from an endowment exceeding $440,000.
