The Soroptimist International of Fallon Women's Opportunity Award Scholarship and Violet Richardson Youth Girls Scholarship Award applications are now being accepted.
Applications for the Women's Opportunity Award Scholarship Program will be accepted through Dec. 15 and applications for the Violet Richardson Youth Girls Scholarship Award will be accepted through Dec. 1. Applications can be obtained at Churchill County Social Services, 485 W. B St., ste.,105, 423-6695.
The Violet Richardson Youth Girls Scholarship Award is a $250 scholarship that can go up to $2,500 if awarded at the national level.
The Violet Richardson Award is meant to honor young woman that are devoted to improving their lives in the community. Applicants should be from Churchill County, between the ages of 14-17 and be caring, compassionate, creative and committed to making the world a better place by identifying a problem and trying to solve it.
She should also have a significant or noteworthy accomplishment as a volunteer.
The Women's Opportunity Award Scholarship Program for 2010 is a $1,000 award and up to an additional $15,000 if awarded at a national level.
The scholarship is awarded to women who need resources to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Applicants should be residents of Churchill County, a woman with the primary responsibility for supporting her family and have attended or been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program. An applicant should have financial need to attend school and be motivated to achieve her educational and career goals.
Previous winners, Soroptimist members and immediate family members are not eligible for these scholarships. For applications, call Shannon Ernst at 423-6695.
