The Republican Women of Yoakum invite area high school seniors of Lavaca and DeWitt counties to participate in the annual Constitution Essay Contest. Home School students are also welcome to enter. Rules have been distributed to the area high schools.
The contest will end Oct. 8. Winners will receive $100 first prize at each school, or receive the $300 prize for the overall winner of all schools.

Winners from each school, their parents and teacher will be invited to attend the Nov. 3 meeting of the Republican Women at 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. when they will be honored and receive their prize money.
In honor of Constitution Day, Sept. 17 the Republican Women of Yoakum sponsor this essay contest each year. The Republican Women serve all area citizens by promoting the Republican Philosophy and informing the public on issues facing our country. Men are welcomed to join as Associate members for $10 a year; and women member's dues are $25 a year. Visitors are welcome, and lunch is served. The speaker for the Oct. 6 meeting will be Dr. Donna Campbell, candidate for District No. 25 U.S. Congress and Eddie Zamora, candidate for DeWitt U. S. Congress District No. 15
