Call for Submissions of Short Works: SLUT Festival of Staged Reading (USA only)

Post date: 04 June 2012
Deadline: 31 July 2012

From Kathleen Alvania, Artistic Director of The Disreputables: "My theatre company is seeking submissions of short works for a staged reading festival that will run just before the presidential election this fall. There is no fee to submit and the call is open to all U.S. playwrights. The full call is attached."

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Disreputables are now accepting submissions of short works for SLUT, a festival of staged readings and discussions inspired by the political climate of 2012 - in particular, the string of controversial legislation (dubbed the “War on Women”) which serves to hinder a woman’s right to privacy, choice, and safety. SLUT is the first installment of the UNmute! Reading Series, a season-long project aimed at raising the volume on stifled voices. We are seeking original plays, musicals, and monologues from 1-30 minutes in length. SLUT will be presented in the Washington, DC metropolitan area in October 2012.

All submissions will be accepted via email, and must be accompanied by a cover page containing a brief synopsis and professional bio. Please visit http://www.disreputables.org for full guidelines. No submissions will be accepted in hard copy form, with the exception of short musicals presented with an accompanying CD. We are not accepting translations or adaptations. Only one submission per writer is allowed. All plays must be submitted in a single document, formatted in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat. All scripts must include
 page numbers.

Submissions are open to all writers in the United States, with or
without representation. For playwrights represented by credited agents or managers, we prefer
that you submit your work through your representation. To ensure your script is accepted, we encourage you to submit your work as early as possible. The submission period ends July 31, 2012.

GUIDELINES

All submissions will be accepted via email to disreputables.theatre@gmail.com, and must be accompanied by a cover page containing a brief synopsis and professional bio.

Please try to send all documents as .pdf files, as we find this preserves pagination and formatting in the manner you intended. If that is not possible, then .doc files will suffice. If you are working on a Mac Platform, and not sending a .pdf, please make sure the documents can be opened in a PC environment.

Submitted musicals must be accompanied by a recording, whether attached mp3 or cd version. Sheet music is an acceptable alternative if necessary, but a recording is highly recommended.

No submissions will be accepted in hard copy form, with the exception of short musicals presented with an accompanying CD. These can be mailed to:
