Global Press Institute (GPI) uses journalism as a development tool to educate, employ and empower women, who produce high-quality local news coverage that elevates global awareness and ignites social change.

GPI is building a network of professional female journalists throughout the developing world who earn a fair wage for reporting on their local communities. Their unique coverage of issues overlooked by mainstream media contributes directly to the development and empowerment of their communities, brings greater transparency to their countries, and changes the way the world views their people and cultures. GPI currently operates in 25 countries and employs more than 100 women.

GPI is hiring a part-time Global Editorial Coordinator to assist with content production for its international newswire.

The successful candidate must have expert knowledge of grammar, AP Style and fact checking. Minimum two years of copy editing or other relevant journalism experience required. Four-year college degree required. Prior experience with feature-style journalism strongly preferred. Candidates should have Web-posting experience through a basic content management system.

Applicants must be dedicated, self-motivated, organized, hardworking and deadline-oriented. Sense of humor and passion for journalism, ethics and women's issues are a must. Interest in working with reporters from 25 countries, patience and a willingness to learn are mandatory.

International awareness or experience and fluency in a second language preferred. This position will require 20+ hours per week and will become a full-time position for the right candidate in 2013. Hourly wage, DOE. Long term commitment a must. Qualified applicants must complete an editing test. Send resume, 3 references and 3 writing samples no later than May 31.
