The South Asian Women’s Creative Collective is pleased to announce a call for submissions for its fifteenth anniversary exhibition, to be held at the Project Space of Queens Museum of Art from August 11th to October 2012.
SAWCC will present an archival exhibition of South Asian Women artist's work in the Queens Museum of Art's Project Space. We will create an installation by including ephemera and documentation from past SAWCC events, film and video including documentation by musicians and dancers, books authored and edited by SAWCC women and visual art culled from current submissions and past exhibitions. We also invite the submission of haiku's (see details below)
SAWCC WILL BE ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS IN THE FOLLOWING DISCIPLINES:
Visual Art : Current work made within the last three years (Dimensions below 24 X 24 inches, all disciplines accepted.) Art must be finished or in the process of, ready for installation at the time of notification.
Literature: Please submit one copy of book/s authored by or edited by a South Asian woman/women for the exhibition - after the Queens Museum exhibition this copy will go into our archives and be presented at all future venues. We are interested in zines, monographs, fiction, non- fiction, poetry, anthologies etc.
We also invite haiku's that may be inspired by SAWCC women or may (loosely) fit the mission and work of SAWCC, to be printed on vinyl and presented on the walls of the exhibition. We will select 1-3 haikus to include in the space of the exhibition.
Film / Videos (music/dance): Videos as a genre or as documentation by Dancers and Musicians
Documentation: Photographs of SAWCC events or members - we want to see SAWCC through your eyes! If you have images of SAWCC activities from past years, please mail/email us the photographs including information - the names of individuals in the image, event, date and who should be credited for the photograph (if not yourself, we will include you!) You can either mail a physical print or email a jpeg dimensions at least 4 X 6 inches for print.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Submissions must include, as attachments:
- 8-10 JPEGS, 820 pixels wide or high, 100 dpi, titled as number & last name (ex.1_Chaudhury)
- Resume as PDF or Word Document
- Website (if applicable)
In the body of email:
- Name and contact information
- Corresponding image list: Title, Date, Media and Dimensions
- Artist statement pertaining to above curatorial proposal
Submissions are invited from women of South Asian descent.
Artists will be responsible for bringing their works to and from the Queens Museum and for all shipping, insurance and transportation costs incurred in this process. In special cases, the board will consider financial assistance. More detailed instructions on installation and pick-updates for accepted works will be communicated to the artists after the juried process.
