Registration is still being accepted for “Called to Write,” a daylong workshop for Christian women interested in writing.
The workshop will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lighthouse Christian Church, 401 S. National Ave., Fond du Lac.
A registration form may be downloaded by visiting the following website: bit.ly/FDLC2W. A $25 workshop fee includes lunch and other light refreshments.
“Called to Write” is the second annual workshop sponsored by Writeous Sisters, a writer’s group comprised of women from the Fond du Lac and Oshkosh area.
The event will include several writing workshop sessions and a presentation “Write as if it Matters” by keynote speaker Cynthia Ruchti. Ruchti is the author of the novel They Almost Always Come Home, the story of a woman’s search for her husband missing in the Canadian wilderness and her own internal exploration.
Ruchti’s debut novel was published in May 2010 by Abingdon Press and several months later was nominated by Romantic Times for the 2010 Reviewers Choice Best Inspirational Novel award. Ruchti is past president of American Christian Fiction Writers, and writes and produces The Heartbeat of the Home, a daily, 15-minute radio broadcast ministry. She is a seasoned conference speaker, and is currently working on four more novels: On the Night He Was Betrayed, All My Belongings, Jaded, and Afraid of the Night.
“We developed this workshop to encourage and connect with other Christian women who write or feel called to write,” explains Ronnell Gibson, chairperson of the workshop and a member of Writeous Sisters. “Writing is a very independent, personal activity, but every writer, whether she is an essayist, poet, or novelist, needs support and feedback.”
“Many authors begin their writing path by uniting with a writing group,” Gibson adds. “And a writer’s workshop is a great way to connect with other women who want to write or who have already published and can share their journey. “We are fortunate and blessed to bring in Cynthia Ruchti to share her love and passion for the written word. In addition to offering this networking opportunity, we want to encourage other women to join or start their own writer’s group.”
