The Practice of Poetry: A Fall Writing Workshop for Women (Grailville Center, Ohio)

Post date: 17 July 2011
Deadline: 6 September - 15 November 2011

Do you write to make sense of your world? Are you aware of the connection between the spirit and poetry? Come to Grailville to allow the practice of poetry to help enhance your life.

Grailville’s Fall Practice of Poetry Workshop for Women will be held bi-weekly Tuesdays, September 6- November 15, 2011 from 7-9 pm. Optional craft workshops are also available on alternate Tuesdays, from 7-9 pm.

The Practice of Poetry is based on the belief that all the things that make good poetry—paying attention to the interaction of our inner lives and the outer world, making time for reflection, nurturing supportive relationships, honest assessment of what works and what doesn’t, careful discernment as to what we keep and what we let go—are also the things that keep us healthy and whole. This series will provide opportunities for using creative writing as a tool to listen deeply to your own heart’s wisdom.

Each bi-weekly workshop session, held from 7- 9 pm, includes instruction in the art and craft of poetry, writing time and opportunities for participants to share what thy have written. Sessions provide opportunities for writing and sharing with other women as well as guidance in the art and craft of poetry. The optional Poetry Craft Sessions held on alternate Tuesdays are opportunities to give and receive constructive feedback on poems.

The Practice of Poetry is led by Grailville co-director and poet Pauletta Hansel, the author of two collections of poetry, Divining (WovenWord Press) and First Person Dos Madres Press). Pauletta will show through The Practice of Poetry, ways to help us find new meaning in our experiences and make room for both inspiration and careful discernment in our spiritual and creative lives.
