Call for Submissions: Innocent and Heartless (Salt Press)

Post date: 11 May 2011
Deadline: 29 July 2011

"Why can’t you fly now, mother?” “Because I am grown up, dearest. When people grow up they forget the way.” “Why do they forget the way?” “Because they are no longer gay and innocent and heartless. It is only the gay and innocent and heartless who can fly.”

- Peter Pan and Wendy, by J. M. Barrie

Innocent and Heartless Anthology

When we grow up, we’re expected to set aside the magic and wonder of childhood. But what if that wasn’t necessary? What if coming of age meant discovering just how much magic was left in the world?

The Innocent and Heartless anthology is set to explore that idea. We’re looking for young adult stories involving elements of magic and keeping belief alive even as childhood is left behind. All stories should at least begin in the modern world, but can contain any sort of supernatural twist. Witches and goblins, vampires and werewolves, or fairies and dragons; the only limit is your imagination.

Individual stories will be made available as ebooks. The full anthology will be available as an ebook and paperback. Authors will receive 15% gross sales off cover price, divided by contribution size for the anthology.

Word Count: 2.5 – 18K
