We are seeking a talented and innovative editor to drive the strategy for all Home & Garden digital extensions including web sites, e-mail newsletters, social media and other digital products. This position reports to the Executive Editor, Home and Garden Brands, and manages an Assistant Digital Editor.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on national brands to grow consumer engagement. The successful candidate will develop and implement digital strategy for the Home & Garden brands, including Birds & Blooms, Country, County Woman, Farm & Ranch Living and Reminisce, which collectively reach over 3 million subscribers.

The digital editor will also be seen as the digital subject matter expert with a focus on SEO and social media to build towards traffic goals. This person should be a proven team player with the skills to work effectively with multiple editors and to lead the digital extensions for multiple brands. Passion and accountability are necessary attributes in our next Digital Editor as Reader's Digest continues to expand its digital offerings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Works with Home & Garden editors to repurpose or create content for web sites, e-mail newsletters, social media and other digital extensions. Plans and schedules regular updates to magazine web sites and timely delivery of e-mail newsletters. Regularly engages customers via social media.
* Monitors customer response to digital media and recommends appropriate actions to meet the needs of current customers and attract new ones.
* Keeps abreast of trends and new technology in the digital arena and makes recommendations to assure the company’s offerings are competitive, engaging and relevant.
* Helps develop and test new digital products and services as needed.
* Creates and maintains appropriate SEO keywords.
* Prepares editorial content for TeamSite or WordPress content management systems, adding HTML coding as necessary.
* Maintains digital editorial calendars.
* Ensures content is valuable and relevant to both customers and prospects, and delivered in the most effective manner using a variety of technologies.
* Assigns work as necessary to Assistant Editor-Digital.
* Helps plan and execute ongoing web strategies for building brand awareness, developing new and existing audiences, creating a database of email addresses and increasing site traffic.
* Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

* Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, including solid knowledge of publishing style and grammar. Strong attention to detail.
* Proven ability to use and implement SEO keywords. Working knowledge of InDesign or QuarkXpress, HTML, blogging platforms and Web analytics (like Omniture) are helpful.
* Ability to organize and plan projects, and meet deadlines.
* Ability to analyze customer feedback and respond appropriately.

Required Experience

* A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English or a related field is preferred.
* A minimum of 3 years experience in digital content creation and/or management, preferably for a consumer publication company. Experience using social media and digital extensions to create brand awareness and develop new audiences is helpful.
