Join the editorial team responsible for 'Taste of Home' branded magazines. As Associate Editor for 'Simple & Delicious' you will focus on bringing 'easy meals every day' to our current subscribers while growing that consumer base. You are a successful editor with a passion for food - open to experiencing all varieties of sweet and savory foods in our test kitchen where you will participate daily in taste panels. Food variety can and will include fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Simple & Delicious is looking for a personable, talented and dependable associate editor who is passionate about food. As part of a close-knit and committed team, the associate editor will be responsible for writing and editing copy for Simple & Delicious as well as assisting with the editorial production of both the magazine and our Web site, tasteofhome.com/simple.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Write strong headlines, regular columns, features, short tips, sidebars, photo captions, and descriptive recipe copy for a significant portion of each bi-monthly issue of Simple & Delicious magazine.
* Rewrite and edit material from readers, interviewing readers, when necessary, for stories and features. Evaluate reader submissions and follow up when more information and or/photos are needed.
* Work independently to research and verify factual information to ensure editorial credibility.
* Proofread magazine pages in production and make changes in InDesign.
* Brainstorm and present fresh, fun and well-researched story ideas for upcoming issues.
* Work with our Web editorial team to write and/or prepare copy for Tasteofhome.com/simple, plan Web callouts for each issue, brainstorm engaging online polls, write blogs, and plan fun Facebook and Twitter initiatives to engage our readers online.
* Take a pro-active role in researching new food products and gadgets to share with readers and/or to use as contest or giveaway prizes for the magazine. Work with manufacturers to procure products for testing and giveaways.
* Actively participate in taste-testing sessions on behalf of the magazine and judge Simple & Delicious recipe contests; this responsibility will include a large variety of ingredients.
* Serve as the go-to person when the Simple & Delicious editor is away.
* Answer reader questions and respond to reader mail as needed.
* Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
* Excellent decision-making skills, including the ability to select appropriate articles for magazine features.
* Strong computer skills (especially Microsoft Word). Experience in InDesign, database and E-mail functions helpful. Experience with blogs and other social media a plus.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact well with internal staff at all levels.
* Ability to think creatively and execute interesting stories.
* Excellent organization and time-management skills in order to meet deadlines on time, including the ability to organize and manage projects, maintain files and juggle multiple assignments.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team is a must.
Required Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
* 3 to 5 years proven writing, editing and proofreading skills.
