Position Summary

Reporting to the the Editorial Director of RISE, the Senior Editor will be the lead editor on RISE magazine for female high school athletes, overseeing all content development as it relates to the female athlete experience, and influencing content across platforms including mobile and web. The Senior Editor will develop and execute the unique ESPN RISE/girls tone and sensibility, brand personality and design, establishing content priorities within our magazine, and across all media. The Senior Editor will also be responsible for empowering our audience, enabling them to contribute, be heard and express themselves within our brand space. Position will be based in Bristol, CT.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead development of RISE magazine for female athletes, evolving the product and enhancing its overall quality.
- Oversee prioritization of all features and development projects, allocating resources as necessary.
- Develop content ideas and priorities based on female athlete feedback, market insights and competitive research.
- Oversee productivity of all content contributors- including bloggers, female athlete correspondents, contributors and ESPN Talent
- Manage extended team of editorial staff, freelancers and contributors. This includes oversight of production on all online creative elements and budget management.
- Work closely with Research and Marketing to deliver audience traffic and audience satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree in communication arts, journalism, new media or a related field or equivalent work experience
- Eight (8) years publishing experience, particularly magazine development, of which at least five (5) years in a management role.
- Experience leading a team

- Clear understanding of and experience with young female audience- ideally, with competitive athletes.

- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal communication skills
- Ability to deal with management, associates, and business partners in courteous, tactful and patient manner.
