Vacancy: Associate Food Editor for Time Inc. (Alabama)

Location: United States - Alabama - Birmingham

Position Description: Experienced food editor with ability to conceive, organize, produce, and coordinate compelling food-related bookazines and other publications for varied and specific brands.

Responsibilities:

•Provide team leadership to assigned projects, from concept through published work, including conceiving and proposing compelling books competitive in newsstand or retail sales markets; creating and managing deadline schedules; collaborating on recipe development, testing, and editing as needed; researching, writing, and editing text; planning and supervising photography; delivering clean manuscript in a timely manner; and supporting marketing and promotions departments. Manuscripts must deliver on time and within established procedures for given brand.
•Work with Publishing Director, Editorial Director, Brand Managers, and Senior Editor to generate and focus compelling ideas for food-related bookazines for large, major food corporation; contribute to regular brainstorming efforts led by editors on rotating basis, contributing to discussions regarding connecting with the marketplace and maximizing commercial potential.
•Strategize with team members to streamline procedures, maximize efficiencies, and minimize costs
•Guide content and design development of assigned projects.
•Establish and identify needs and standards for recipe development, recipe testing, photo, and design.
•Collaborate as needed with all teams to make sure end product meets approved specifications.
•Recommend, recruit, supervise, and edit freelance writers and other freelance personnel as needed.
•Collaborate frequently with designers, freelancers, test kitchens, photo, production, and other related team members to assure efficient and effective workflow for all.
•Responsible for the content, quality, and accuracy of assigned book projects, collaborating with Senior Editor on key approval checkpoints, which are: proposals, initial design plan, design, manuscript, layouts, covers.
•Participate in taste testing and/or recipe testing as needed.
•Oral and written communication with brand, consumers and industry as needed.
•Ability to travel periodically to meet with brand representatives.
•Additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements:

BS in food-related field with a strong writing background or additional coursework; or BS in journalism or communications with strong food background/training or significant experience in food publishing. 3 to 5 years related work experience required; experience in digital industry a plus. Strong oral and written communication skills as well as ability to creatively conceive and visualize concepts and work efficiently within a team are a must
