Child Welfare Reporter Needed by Youth Today (DC)

Post date: 09 December 2010
Deadline: 11 January 2011

Location: Washington, District of Columbia

Salary: $40,000 to $45,000

Description:

Youth Today is a print and online newspaper that covers business practices and public policy related to services for youth and families in the United States. While our coverage area is very broad, the focus of the content is on efforts to serve disadvantaged youth.

One critical aspect of that focus is the child welfare industry, the network of systems and programs tasked with assisting children who have been abused or neglected.

Our child welfare reporter is responsible for tracking and reporting on the news, trends and business developments related to child welfare services at the federal, state and local level. The reporter’s responsibilities include:

-Reporting on breaking news that impacts the programs and people that serve families and children involved in the child welfare system.

-Business and best practice stories, and information on resources and available funding opportunities for programs serving families and children involved in various child welfare systems.

- A weekly column that rounds up interesting research, media coverage and other information on child welfare.

- Up to three long-form feature stories each year on larger issues in the child welfare system.

Please send resumes and three clips to jkelly@youthtoday.org
